Dentures are removable dental appliances that are generally used to replace missing teeth, and can come in three different forms:

  • Conventional dentures This kind of denture is fully removable and is made after the teeth are removed, and tissues are healed. This type of denture usually takes several weeks to complete and healing time can range anywhere from 4 to 6 months.
  • Immediate dentures This is a removable denture that is delivered on the same day that the remaining teeth are removed. Immediate dentures are usually recommended, so the patient doesn’t have to be without teeth during the healing period. Once the healing is done, a new denture will need to be made.
  • Overdenture dentures This type of dental appliance is usually supported by two or more implants and provides the most stability to improve function and appearance.

Are You A Candidate for Shrewsbury Dentures?

Typically anyone who is missing most or all of their teeth is a good candidate for traditional full arch dentures at our practice. When tooth loss is sporadic and you have a substantial amount of healthy remaining teeth, partial dentures may be better suited. If you are looking for a more durable solution to replacing your missing teeth, we also offer implant-supported dentures. Since this option requires dental implant surgery, patients must have healthy gums and adequate jawbone strength to qualify. We will perform a thorough evaluation of your gums, jawbone, and remaining teeth to determine your candidacy for the appropriate type of denture. If gum disease or tooth decay is present, those will need to be addressed before proceeding with dentures.

The Process for Dentures Near You

The process involved with getting customized dentures is relatively easy. After the loss of teeth and the removal of any remaining teeth, typically a healing period Is needed for the bones and gums in your mouth to be well prepared for incoming dentures. A mold or impression of these gums and bones is made in order to fully customize a set of dentures that wont slip or pop off the gums.
